A Jesuit missionary teams up with a former Portuguese mercenary to defend the lives of a tribe of Guarani Indians. Jeremy Irons plays a Catholic priest who has been sent to South America to bring Christianity to the natives. Robert De Niro is the Portuguese warrior in search of redemption. Set to what is considered one of the best film scores in cinematic history, this is a tale of love and sacrifice, hope and justice.
