From My Heart to Yours--Party at the Park wrap-up

Last Sunday was a wonderful celebration of our fall programming season Kick-Off. The early service, which began for the first time at 8:30 a.m. instead of 8:50 a.m., was filled with uplifting music under the direction of new worship leader Mindy Carter. The early start time gives 15-20 more minutes for Sunday School classes at every age level, which is great news for all of our teachers and students.

At both the 8:30 and 11:00 worship services, many children brought their backpacks for the “Blessing of the Backpacks,” as we prayed for our children and their families, and also for our school teachers and administrators, at the beginning of a new school year.

The picnic at Piedmont Park was a huge success in spite of the heat, and people of all ages enjoyed a delicious lunch, “warm” fellowship, delightful bluegrass music, soccer and games, and a special presentation of world-class yo-yo tricks from Bert the yo-yo guy, now an urban legend for sure! Thanks to all our members and friends who showed up and enjoyed the time together. Special thanks to Trey Oswald and his planning team for putting together such a fun party in the park!

A number of people who are not a part of NAPC but who were already at Piedmont Park stopped by to visit with us, and many of them stayed for lunch. What a great way to share our joy in Christ with the community around us!

Please be aware that this week brings the last Sunday that the Oswalds will be among us. They are preparing to leave for Scotland, where Trey will work on a Ph.D. in Church History at the University of Edinburgh. As they leave, their new son Ward will be baptized in the 11:00 a.m. worship service. Please join me in thanking Rachael (children’s ministries) and Trey (adult discipleship) for jobs well done, and in asking for God’s rich blessing in their journey to Scotland.

Grace and peace,
Scott
