From My Heart to Yours--Fine Arts

One of the reasons that Cynthia and I love the city of Atlanta is the breadth and depth of the community’s commitment to the arts. Because our daughter Christen has lived within the world of dance for over a decade, we have seen more dance performances and recitals than we ever would have seen otherwise. Her interest in dance has opened up a world of artistry that we might have otherwise missed. From the Atlanta Ballet’s annual performance of The Nutcracker to its original retelling of The Great Gatsby, from the contemporary repertoire of Dance 101 to the song and dance of OutKast, our lives have been enriched by the artistic gifts of aspiring and professional dancers.

At the same time, we have appreciated the wonderful musical gift to Atlanta in the Atlanta Symphony. At the High Museum of Art, we recently saw the acclaimed Gates of Paradise, Lorenzo Ghiberti’s Renaissance masterpiece, in addition to Louvre Atlanta: The Royal Collections. These are just a few ways that the arts have brought joy to our family in recent years.

At NAPC, we also have a commitment to the arts. Music is at the heart of our worship, and we seek to glorify God through excellence in music in all of our services. Students from Savannah College of Art and Design attend our worship services and share their love for weaving art and faith together in ways that lift the lives of others. Last Sunday, the children of the church offered a recital of their artistic gifts in the Broyles Ministry Center. Let us thank God for the inspiration of the arts, even as we encourage the artists among us to use their gifts for the glory of God!
